Gaborone Dam springs to life

The Gaborone water level increased after Ramotswa recorded heavy rainfall of 105 millilitres on Tuesday morning. The Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) only pumps the dam when it is above five percent.

The dam can only supply Gaborone for a month.  The increase was also seen in some of the dams around the country.

The current dam levels are as follows: Gaborone dam (6.4 percent), Bokaa dam (68.7 percent), Nnywane dam (100.7 percent), Molatedi dam (8.5 percent), Letsibogo dam (68.7 percent), Shashe dam (100.6 percent), Ntimbale dam (104.2 percent), Lotsane dam (98 percent) and Thune dam (37.3 percent).

Lack of water in Gaborone dam led to water restrictions around the capital city and the Greater Gaborone areas. Recently, the South East District (SED) made some recommendations to WUC on water restrictions. It recommended the identification and rehabilitation of additional sources from the old boreholes and the rehabilitation of the existing infrastructure to address water losses.
