The tour will also take them to Norway where they will have shows and workshops.

“This will be an opportunity for our dancers to showcase their expertise, network and also get scouted by other production houses that side,” said MDT director, Andrew Kola.

He said these new relations would also pave way for other Botswana dancers.

Kola said after this tour, he hopes to see Batswana dancers getting deals in Europe or involved in exchange programmes with ensembles from other countries.

Mophato will work with Simba Dance ensemble from Norway on a theatrical dance play titled Shinga.

“During our six weeks residency in Norway we will be working closely with Simba Dance ensemble on a combined play that we will showcase at the BAAF and we will also stage our local productions which have a lot of Setswana elements in a bid to sell the country that side.”

The second tour scheduled for Netherlands will see MDT sharing the stage with 12 other ensembles from places such as South America, Asia, Australia and USA.

While on tour they will visit different schools in both countries where they will host arts and culture sessions that mainly focus on Botswana.

MD has previously travelled to different parts of the world where they have staged their theatrical and dance plays to critical acclaim.
