The game started on a low key with Rollers sitting with five men at the back. Magosi caused an early scare in the 10th minute as Tendai Nyumasi’s chest pass sat well for Lemponye Tshireletso, but the league’s leading scorer blazed over. Four minutes later, Nyumasi came close but his shot went agonisingly wide.

Rollers’ first threat came in the 25th minute when Gofaone Tiro dribbled past Ontse Ntesa, but he took a tame shot. Chiefs defended with a lot of men for a trailing side.

Their three attacking players were often isolated upfront. Ntesa nearly turned one into his net when Galabgwe Moyana posted a free kick from the centre and Ntesa’s unintended flick was met by the alert Mompoloki Sephekolo.

Three minutes from recess, Rollers put matters beyond Chiefs. Joel Mogorosi pounced between confused defenders and dribbled past Sephekolo before slotting into an empty net. Rollers played with caution and sat back catching Chiefs on the counter while Chiefs struggled to bring Kabelo Dambe into action.

In the 67th minute, Mogorosi could have made it two as the veteran lobbed the goalkeeper and his end shot hit the upright.

However, it was not a lost course as he chased the ball and put in a cross and captain Maano Ditshupo connected with a volley to take his tally to four goals.

Chiefs lacked purpose in their play; their only two shots on target in the whole 90 minutes came from Tshireletso’s free kicks.

Chiefs coach, Michael Sithole said after the game that lack of depth cost them. “We lack depth and we have too many players out. We were forced to make changes and we struggled, but overall the boys played well,” he said.

His Rollers counterpart, Mark Harrison said they applied themselves well. “Tactically, we were in a different class. We knew they were going to come to us and they left the space behind the fullbacks and we exploited that and we got goals. We got it superbly right today,” he said.
