The BMS has been clouded with accusations of maladministration following the failure to hold their Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was due last August.

However, it is business as usual on the track as BMS have given the greenlight to the first race of the year.

“We have received an approval from BMS and we are looking forward to hosting riders from South Africa and Zimbabwe at this event and truly hope to continue the growth of motor cross in Botswana,” said LRC vice president, Lola Berrie.

She confirmed that by Thursday they had more than 30 riders registered for the competition, including the African Motocross champion, Ross Branch. The 29-year-old has dominated the local and regional scene for a while now and once again would look to be part of the team at the Motocross of African Nations to be held in Kenya, later this year.

“All the country’s top riders would be competing at this event, in order to place themselves in a place for a spot in the national team. Branch will be here as we all know he is a national hero so I think the spectators will be happy to see him riding on home soil once again,” she said.  The race is one of two races meant to select the Botswana team, with the other to be hosted on April 16, 2016 in Gaborone.

Last year Botswana came in second in the African Motocross championships held in Harare, Zimbabwe.  LRCF also revealed that in order to attract spectators they have renovated the circuit to create a facility of higher quality. “A new junior track has been built with jumps specifically designed for the junior competitors and the spectator views have also been opened up,” said Clayton Davis, vice chairman MX for LRCF.

For this race, the club has already received entries in the following classes; PW50 (3-5 years-old), MX50 (5-9 years-old), MX65 (9-12 years-old), MX85 (10-15 years-old), MX125 (13-18 years-old), MX ladies and off course riders in the MX2 and open class.

“It’s so exciting to see that we are starting to fill all the gaps in our sport, showing that Botswana is fast developing in motocross,” said Berrie.
