Sale of prophetic services worry OAIC

Huge crowds are a common sight at crusades by foreign pastors and prophets

Speaking during the meeting for prophets in Palapye over the weekend, OAIC president Phillemon Motlhagodi said God’s services should not be sold.

Motlhagodi said: “A prophet should be a messenger of God to alert the flock, a nation and to give caution. People expect an honest, loyal, and trustworthy prophet committed to his or her work. So as an organisation the first choice in our journey is determining the direction.

“I know that some of you are unemployed hence focusing on prophetic management only, but that does not give you the right to help people in exchange of cash. This encourages a lot of criminal activities in the name of prophecy”.

He encouraged prophets never to do things thinking that they were invincible. He said God sees everything. He said a prophet is God’s servant hence should abide by the Lord’s word and must know God’s heart.

Motlhagodi said during his tour of different churches that were registered with OAIC in Botswana, he was surprised to see that some prophets placed sign boards at the gates of their yards reflecting their services and payments.

“Do what the Lord wants. Some of you have billboards, which reflect your charges in your yards, but our law does not allow us to do so. Some of the prophets whom I questioned about such acts told me that the materials used to help people are expensive while some said they learnt their work from far hence it should be paid for,” he said.

He said it was time the prophets come together, discuss their needs and challenges and come up  with a solution instead of doing what was against their guidelines. However, he said prophets should be respectful, obedient and deliver the services of the Lord so that people can be impressed by their work. “Let us learn the fundamental philosophy of prophecy and note that prophets are holding the lives of the people,” he said. “Therefore they should do their job with caution. We wish to see prophets who are willing to go forward, not those who do not have direction.”

He added that prophetic work was sensitive, which could destroy the country, hence should be dealt with carefully and in the correct manner.

“The reasons why there are so many churches mushrooming is because of prophets who do not respect the way churches are run and the country’s legislation.

Motlhagodi accused some prophets of disrespecting their pastors and churches, as some of them dress as they wished while delivering prophetic services.  He said the way prophets dress should reflect their professionalism. He encouraged them to be clean at all times so that people can respect them.

“Let’s be clean and presentable at all times. Some of the prophets will put on their white coats for a month without bothering to wash them. We should be role models of the people we are leading; the reason why our churches are always undermined is because of how we present ourselves. We are undermining ourselves so there is no way people can respect us,” he said.
