Chiefs appeal Nato ruling

Chiefs confirmed through their Facebook page that they had filed an appeal following the dismissal of their protest by the Botswana Premier League (BPL) disciplinary committee (DC) last week.

Chiefs’ protest was thrown out last week on technicality with the BPL DC ruling that they did not follow the right procedures when lodging a protest as per article 5.1 of the Mascom Top 8 Play Rules and Regulations.

The article stipulates that protests be lodged before kickoff of the said fixture. In their defence, Chiefs had argued that the club spokesperson, Clifford Mogomotsi had made a verbal protest to one of the competition’s organising committee representatives, Bickie Mbenge before the game. Mbenge, however, denied ever receiving any protest from Chiefs.

The DC in its ruling wondered why Chiefs did not lodge the protest through the match officials. However, the Kgatleng giants feel aggrieved by the DC’s ruling and have since taken the matter further.

The protest came after Nato helped Township Rollers to a 3-1 win in the first leg of the Mascom Top 8 semi finals.  The two giants meet again this Saturday for the second leg in Francistown.  Chiefs were following in the footsteps of Gilport Lions who also lodged a protest challenging the registration of Nato.  Both Rollers and Gilport Lions argued their case before the BPL DC last week.  The ruling for that matter was scheduled to be delivered yesterday.

The player has been on the sidelines since the two protests were lodged and missed Rollers’ matches against FC Satmos and Gaborone United.

Chiefs have said striker, Onalethata Tshekiso (injury) and left back, Kaelo Kgaswane (suspension) would miss this weekend’s Top 8 clash with Rollers.  Tshekiso is out for three weeks while Kgaswane is serving suspension after accumulating three yellow cards.

Zambian striker, Felix Sunzu had reportedly been allowed to return home after his Zambian club delayed in providing his documents.

The player has been a transfer target for Chiefs as they seek to replace Kekaetswe Moloi who joined Extension Gunners recently.

The club has also announced their intention to sign Sageby Sandaka who has been training with the team.  Sandaka once played for Chiefs before he joined BMC.
