England and the West Indies will bowl the first ball next month, as international action resumes after a three-month COVID-19 enforced break.

But locally, action is still some way off, with BCA fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar emphasising a cautious approach.

“We are making preparations to get the premises sanitised and ready before we plan for the activities like training first,” Damodar said.

“We want to ensure that we comply with all protocols and ensure total safety of all our players, staff and potential spectators. We would prefer to tread with caution.”

He said they have engaged a contractor to disinfect the facilities.

“We have a very reasonable offer from our current hygiene contractor. Work is actually ongoing today (Thursday),” Damodar added.

The government has given non-contact sport like cricket, the green light to return to action.

Some countries have started training, but are adhering to safety protocols.

West Indies’ tour of England on July 5 is expected to mark the official return of international cricket.

The visiting players were expected to fly to England this week, but would be quarantined before the series starts.

Cricket, like other sport codes, has introduced new safety rules, which amongst others, bar spitting and group celebrations.
