It all points to the current season being declared null and void where there are no champions or relegation. The other option is declaring the season complete, with current league standings deemed final.

One of the two options is expected to emerge as the preferred choice of concluding the matter, which has become a hot potato for the Botswana Football Association (BFA).

The association’s board would meet soon to decide the way forward after clubs were this week asked to pick an option in a bid to decide the way forward.

If the season ends as it is, with the log standings considered final, Jwaneng Galaxy would emerge as the biggest winner.

The miners are top of the BTC Premiership standings, but were involved in a tight race with Security Systems, Orapa United and Township Rollers.

At the bottom, TAFIC, Miscellaneous and Molepolole City Stars would be the biggest losers, as they face relegation to the First Division. The three would pray the season is declared null and void.

Masitaoka and Sua Flamingoes would be declared First Division South and North champions respectively.

But there is still some debate before the season is declared complete. The logical route, that is, to complete the season, has been all but ruled out due to prohibitive costs, estimated at more than P300 million.

The BFA faces a testing period ahead, as Lekidi Centre authorities have to make what could prove to be unpopular decisions.

Some clubs are sceptical over BFA’s sincerity regarding ‘consultation’ over the options available to determine the fate of the season. There are fears their input might be disregarded with the BFA National Executive Committee expected to emerge with the final decision.
