Impeccable sources said the coach’s salary has not been adjusted for the last year and BFA owes him more than P300,000 including his yearly gratuity.

The situation has reportedly left Butler considering his position.

“He is fed-up.  The way the matter has been handled has left him disappointed and considering his position. He is passionate about his work and loves being here, but the current situation is untenable,” said a source close to the Englishman. “There are problems at BFA. It is all within the NEC.  It seems the infighting has taken centre stage and the preparations for the national team sidelined,” added the source.  The deep-throat said the coach has felt that the issue has gone too far with little effort to address it.

BFA president, Tebogo Sebego said as far as he was concerned there were no issues with the coach. “I cannot discuss the coach’s contract in the media. These are internal matters, but as far as I know there are no issues with the coach,” Sebego said.

Equally, Butler declined to comment on the issue. “I have no comment. I just wish to concentrate on coaching and help Botswana improve,” was all Butler was prepared to say. It is said the BFA is moving towards addressing the matter, although it is said some NEC members are in the dark regarding the debt.

Butler has been credited with turning around the Zebras fortunes after a nosedive following the first ever Africa Cup of Nations finals in 2012. He has shed aging players, instead replacing them with younger ones and the squad pool has been widened. Butler has seen a spike in Zebras’ interest with a record 26,262 crowd attending the Mali game in Francistown.  He also registered a first ever Zebras victory over Mali and the future is looking bright.

The Zebras are preparing for back-to-back assignments against Comoros at the end of this month.  Butler decried the lack of a friendly match in the build-up to the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
