Their relegation would mean four teams would be demoted from the First Division North league to make way for the three teams from the Premiership and two that would gain promotion from the second division. First Division North secretary general, Rapula Gaotlhobogwe said the impending situation will impact heavily on their efforts and they hope to have two teams promoted to ease the situation.

“This is going to be a serious blow for our teams here. If three teams relegate, our progression is going to suffer because we will lose many teams to the second division. We  pray that we promote two teams otherwise the situation is not good for our football in the north. It is two steps back for us,” Gaotlhobogwe said.

“Our dream is to promote teams that will sustain themselves at the top and increase our representation in the premiership. We have good development structures here hence so many top players are from the northern region. We need teams playing in the top flight to motivate our development otherwise, we will suffer,” he added.

Meanwhile, the battle for the top position was blown open over the weekend when ECCO City Greens continued with their persistent chase on Mahalapye Hotspurs.  Mamoja reduced the deficit to two points with a 3-2 win against Real Movers in Selebi-Phikwe.  The win increased their tally of points to 35.

Amahot dropped two points with a second consecutive draw when Tsabothe held them to a stalemate in Mahalapye.

Sua Flamingoes, who had a flying start to the season in the first round, continue to drop points after losing 1-0 to TAFIC. Matjimenyenga have been in fine form recently and their win takes them into the top four with a game in hand. TASC and Maun Tigers shared spoils in a 2-2 draw while GNT beat Kazungula 1-0. In the bottom of the table clash Palapye All Stars beat Tonota FC 2-1 in Palapye.
