Food shortage hits Matsiloje JSS

This comes just days after it was reported that Kagiso Senior Secondary School in Ramotswa had been hit by shortage of food.

According to insiders at MJSS, students have been experiencing food shortages since last week. At the moment only boarding students are given lunch while the day scholars have been forced to eat at home.

Although MJSS senior officials reportedly announced the food shortages recently at a kgotla meeting, the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairperson Dineo Sebego, disclosed that the school had not communicated the latest development to her.

She however, noted that she is aware that students are not having their lunch at the school and as a result have to knock off earlier than usual in order to mitigate against shortage of lunch at the school.

She added: “The food shortage may be a result of a breakdown in the school’s supply system, or rise in demand of food rations because the school is a boarding facility.”

The school head, Tabona Magaga, refused to comment on the matter and referred all enquiries to the North-East regional office.

Ministry of Educational and Skills development director in the northeast region, Galesengwe Mahube, this week confirmed the food shortage at MJSS.

“ The school did not meet the requirements of its menu due to shortage of food items,” he said.

He said that the regional authorities are working tirelessly to sort out the food shortage at the school at the earliest possible time.

He said that the region has a special catering arrangement for boarding students, adding that food allocated to boarding students will last until the end of the current financial year later this month.
