Woolworths is the first store to dress the beauty queen since she was crowned last year.

Handing over the voucher to Mabengano, the country regional manager of Woolworths, Nothando Mwelase said they chose to extend a helping hand to the beauty after she requested for their assistance.

“She is our child and a role model to many women out there so it was necessary to clothe her.  She is our emblem,” she said.  Mwelase indicated that Woolworths receive a lot of requests for assistance.

“We are giving back to our customers and we always choose to help people who could touch more people and Miss Botswana is an example of such,” she said.

Mwelase said Woolworths’ relationship with the beauty queen would be continuous.

“We have other projects lined-up and we want to work with her,” she said.

Mwelase said the projects would mainly include giving back to schools around Botswana.

“It would need a through assessment, but we want to start at the grassroots level,” she said.

Mabengano told Showbiz she was grateful for getting the help she needed from Woolworths.  “They have shown that they are not all about profit and selling, but they also care about the community,” she said. She said no store has ever done that for her since she became the queen last year.

“I have asked to be involved in their upcoming community projects.  Woolworths is doing great and that’s what I am all about,” she said.

Woolworths also handed over two vouchers worth P10,000 each to their lucky loyalty club customers, Ikanyeng Ben and Dimakatso Bulayani, who had joined their loyalty club.

The two won the monthly competition after they used their Woolworths reward cards to swipe at one of the Woolworths stores around the country.

Mwelase said everyone is welcome to join the club for free and could stand a chance to win the voucher if they swipe at any Woolworths store.

“We exist because of our customers, therefore this is our way of saying thank you for supporting Woolworths,” she said.

The winners could not hide their happiness and one of them Bulayani told Showbiz that her lifestyle is going to change after this.

“It’s my first time to win and as a cancer patient who is not working, it’s a sign that God has not forsaken me,” she said.

Ben said she was shocked to hear the news that she won a voucher from one of her favourite stores.

The competition is open to anyone except Woolworths employees and the past winners also stand a chance to win again if they continue to swipe at Woolworths.
