Trapped in foreign territory

The film follows six members of a security operator’s task force known as G.R.S (Global Response Staff) made up of former special forces who fight to defend the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya after waves of terrorist attacks. This group of six men went beyond the call of duty, performing extraordinary acts of courage and heroism, to avert tragedy on a much larger scale. This is their personal account, never before told, of what happened during the 13 hours of the now-infamous attack. What’s so cool about this film is how Michael Bay recruited relatively unknown actors and buffed them up to look tough. The G.R.S operatives look stone tough with beards like true mercenaries.
Action
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi is an exciting film. For instance, the sight of an Arabic speaking person making a call in the presence of US operatives can only mean danger. The story shows us how every now and then US officials in Libya had to constantly be on the run (fugitives). It has a bit of that espionage flavour as well because CIA agent’s cover got blown and this jeopardised the lives of Americans in Libya. To give you a taste of the action, terror forces attack the US embassy, chase CIA agents on the streets of Benghazi in hot pursuits with bullet proof Mercedes Benzes, while G.R.S hold their cool with sniper shooting skills. The technology and special effects add vigor into this blockbuster.
The film is filled with massive explosions. It was also nice to see the G.R.S using night vision goggles to eliminate the enemy at night when conditions favoured them most. To some extent 13 Hours, has its funny moments. It reinforces a stereotype, which suggests gunfire is music to war-torn countries. Furthermore, this film is scary and tragic, hence viewer’s discretion advised. The film arouses emotions because innocent people lose their lives to insensitive terrorists, while some go home without limbs. 13 Hours will surely thrill you with themes of family, patriotism, fear, hope and survival amongst others.
