The estimated total cost of ERTP spending is P20 billion over 2 and half years and the creative industry, which President Mokgweetsi Masisi is believed to take to heart will benefit more alongside other sectors.

“The 2020/21 - 2022/23 ERTP should involve implementation of the development aspirations and transformation agenda 12 and take the opportunity to implement long-term transformation measures that may have been previously difficult to undertake,” read the document released by the Ministry of Finance and Economic development.

The growth of the creative industry among others like the accelerated development of facilitative infrastructure and promoting the digital transformation are some of the priority sectors topping the list.

“The creative industry has the potential to contribute towards job creation and contribute to the much-needed economic diversification.

The industry is one of the first to be adversely affected by the COVID-19 outbreak due to the extreme social distancing that was implemented,” further read the document.

It has also been revealed that the ERTP could also target local film, programme and documentary producers and ensure that Btv content is predominantly local such as the case in South Africa and Nigeria where the local film industry has grown considerably over the years. “To improve quality and ability to compete with external content, there could be segregation between prime and non-prime time content to engender competition for the former”, added the document.
