Batshu, MP for Nkange, is said to be positioning himself to take over as sub-tribal authority (Moemela Kgosi) in his home village of Maitengwe when he retires from politics.

Talk is rife in his constituency that Batshu has indicated that he will not contest in the 2019 general elections and is currently positioning himself to take over bogosi in his home village.

However, reached for comment Batshu stated that he has not yet made a decision whether to contest or not because they (elections) are still far.

“I will announce if I will contest or not in due course,” said Batshu.

He admitted that he is aware of talk that he will quit politics.

“I just decided to ignore the rumours because they hold no substance,” he added.

Batshu explained that reports about him trading politics for a position in bogosi are baffling.

“Because I am not from the royal family I am not eligible for bogosi in my home village,” said Batshu.

However, Mmegi has learnt that bogosi in Maitengwe is decided through a voting process.  The current kgosi of Maitengwe is working under contract because he has passed the age of 80.  In recent months Batshu has come under scrutiny from some members of his constituency who accused him of failing to bring developments in his area.

Already some members of his constituency are said to be plotting to topple him from his parliamentary post should he contest in the next general elections.
