Mamoja Diski had a bad start to the season with two losses from the two opening games, but has been on an upward trajectory ever since. Mamoja are six points behind leaders, Mahalapye Hotspurs on 29 points while Sua fell a point below. The former beMOBILE Premiership outfit said their mission has always been to regain their elite league status.

“We are pushing to the number one spot and the team is slowly getting there. We meet Hotspurs here and our intention is to beat them. They have a good number of points and if they can maintain their run we will settle for the number two spot,” said ECCO assistant coach, States Gaothuse.

In the Sunday encounter, both sides traded punches in a back and forth affair but lacked a sting in the box. Sua could have broken the deadlock on the half hour mark. Donald Chiringa drilled a low cross after a good run on the left side, but the on rushing Shanganani Ngada failed to pick a spot from the 16-yard box and shot wide.

ECCO threatened mainly through their livewire Onkemetse Powe, who kept switching flanks and giving the Sua defence a torrid time.

The goal came from a second half penalty in the 65th minute when a Flamingoes defender who attempted to block a shot was charged for a handball in the box. Galebose Masala buried the resulting spot kick. From the goal, ECCO pressed high forward and forced Sua on the back foot until the final whistle.

Sua Flamingoes assistant coach, Screamer Molapi was not worried about dropping points of late. “It’s not that we are not playing well. Most of our players are new, the coach is new and I am new.

We are still trying to adjust and find combinations. There is still going to be a lot of fighting and this is just the beginning. This race is going down to the wire,” he said.

In other games played over the weekend, Amahot increased their lead at the top with a 1-0 home win over Kazungula FC. TAFIC compounded Palapye All Stars woes with a 4-0 demolition in Francistown. TASC beat Tsabothe 3-1, Real Movers edged GNT 3-2 and visiting Maun Tigers showed no respect to the home side, Tonota FC, with a 2-0 defeat.
