Raleru, who was appointed substantive CEO in 2010 after acting for a period, led the Corporation through its darkest years, with declining South African power imports, troubles at Morupule B and the suspension of Morupule A leading to fragile power supply.

Yesterday, BPC board chair, Sebetlela Sebetlela told Mmegi that a review of all executive positions was underway, as part of the transformation process within the utility.

“Last year, we had said there would be a transformation process and we are progressing with it. It will involve a review of the whole structure and organisation of BPC and in due course, we will implement that change.

“We are going through that process, looking at every position in the organisation and seeing what needs to happen,” he said.

Asked whether Raleru was retiring, resigning or being fired, Sebetlela insisted the current CEO was not immediately leaving.

“We are not in a hurry to make any major changes, but we are going through that review process for every position and identifying the suitable talent to lead the organisation,” he said.

“We are not hurrying and a recruitment exercise for the position of CEO will take time. We would expect that by the end of this year, we would have settled on whatever changes we need to make within the executive.” Raleru becomes the latest CEO to leave the parastatal sector, after the departure of Air Botswana’s Ben Dahwa and the Water Utilities Corporation’s Lawrence Nxumalo, who both exited late last year.
