Diamonds Alive exhibition celebrates icons

The portraits feature a diverse range of people including leaders, elders, and ordinary people from different segments of society such as politics, public, industry, arts, sports and community-based projects.

According to Puma Energy Botswana general manager, Mahube Mpugwa, they are cognisant of the country’s progress over the past 50 years.

“The Diamonds Alive project is another avenue through which we celebrate this valuable resource by paying homage to those that played a significant part in the story of Botswana over the past 50 years,”

The Diamonds Alive exhibition will be open to the public in March and can be viewed simulteneously at Railpark, Riverwalk and Airport Junction malls

One of the organisers, Phenyo Motlhagodi, said that all portraits were set against iconic landmarks such as structures of historical impact and the breath-taking Botswana landscape.

“Each location is carefully chosen to reflect its special meaning to the person being photographed,” Motlhagodi said. “These portraits reveal all the people featured to be real, living Botswana’s success since independence.”

Photographs were drawn from personal and public archives complemented by photographs taken by Aldo Brincat
