Business Botswana Courts Japan Investors

The Japanese Business Federation is an economic organisation with a membership that comprises 1,329 representative companies of Japan. Member companies of the Japanese Business Federation specialise in different fields such as construction, engineering, trade and investment.

Speaking during the seminar, BB president, Leta Mosienyane, said this was an appropriate time for Botswana and Japan to engage in joint ventures as BB was all about advocating for a private sector driven economy.

“We advocate for economic reforms to put Botswana on a higher economic growth path in order to generate wealth, prosperity and jobs,” he said. Mosienyane told the Japanese delegation that Botswana was facing water and energy shortages, which presented an opportunity for private joint venture investments in power generation and transmission to meet the demand.

“The Chinese economy which has served as a critical source of demand for many sub Saharan exports is on an economic slowdown,” he said. “Inward and outward investment by Japan and Botswana will therefore offer us an opportunity to diversify and grow our economy.”

During the breakfast meeting, the head of Japanese Business Federation delegation, Kunio Noji, said Botswana had potential for economic growth.

“We hope that this relationship will help further the development in the country,” he said.
