FFW is a new fashion event scheduled to take place in November. Over 100 male and female models paraded in front of a judging panel that included modelling and fashion experts. The panel comprised South African model, Thabang Mmolotsi, Miss Botswana 2015 first princess, Peggy Grynberg, Miss Africa Botswana, Peelo Mookodi, Miss Botswana 2013 second princess, Khumo Leburu, Lizzy Maila, make-up artists, Mboko Basiami and Sadie Simanyana.

“We are trying to find modelling talent amongst young Batswana who can take part during the fashion week. As you can see, we are using professionals as our judges. We are using international standards to select models,” FFW CEO, Kesaobaka Kemolatlhe said. He said judges are scouting for catwalk and editorial models for magazine photoshoots. Only 10 models will be selected from the Gaborone auditions. The FFW team will also host auditions in Francistown, Gantsi, Kanye, Lobatse and Maun.

Kemolatlhe said that FFW has partnered with a number of fashion designers who will be showcasing their clothes during the fashion show.  “We also have tertiary schools such as University of Botswana, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology and Botho University that have fashion related courses,” he said.

He said he hopes the fashion industry will be taken more seriously in the country as it plays a role in the development of the economy. The fashion week is packaged in a way that it will have modelling and fashion design-related workshops including fashion shows.
