Gabs Heat Blazes In 3x3 Basketball Opener

Gabs Heat’s Mallya Mokute put her team in front by scoring a number of three pointers as GC Spark players failed to communicate.

Within five minutes of play, Gabs Heat had surged to a 5-3 lead.

GC Spark played a more defensive game as their opponents were more tactical utilising the shot time they had to score three pointers with the game 10 minutes old. As they maintained their defensive strategy, GC Spark players, Katlego Setshiro and Lebole Koontse managed to score a couple of baskets.

In the second half of play, Gabs Heat came much more stronger as they were playing a faster game pushing for three pointers with Sesupo Balosi more aggressive as she sliced through the GC Spark defence.

The match ended 16-11 as Gabs Heat won through their tactical formations.

GC Spark player, Koontse accepted defeat.

“We had the game in the beginning but lack of stamina killed us. This was a learning curve, we will get better in our next matches,” Koontse said.

In another match, Bavs thrashed Roaches 12- 4 in a men’s open game. The game was tense as the teams’ hunger for baskets led to countless fouls.

Bavs, however, managed to overpower their rivals.

During the men’s open matches, there was a shortage of kits as some players had to play using their own kit which confused spectators for a moment as colours clashed until the officials intervened.

The FIBA 3x3 tournament continues next weekend at the same venue.
