Mogwera had kept the forensic report away from the public while it was still being scrutinised by the Serious Crime Squad Police for investigations and possible prosecutions. The decision to release the report follows the police's writen approval for the dissemination of the report, now that they are done with it.

FORENSIC AUDIT - UPDATE

The Board of Directors of BABEREKI INVESTMENTS (PYY) LTD a company wholly owned by BOPEU hereby wishes to update and inform the public, clients and stakeholders on the progress of the forensic audit which was instituted almost 2 years ago on certain alleged improprieties regarding the company and its subsidiaries. The forensic audit was instituted at the instance of the shareholder.

A South African based Forensic Audit Company ENS Africa was engaged by Babereki Investments to uncover any governance gaps, financial misappropriation, embezzlement and corruption, if any, in the company and its subsidiaries.  The forensic audit was submitted to the Botswana Police following the recommendation of the forensic auditors for further criminal investigations.

We are pleased to inform our clients and all stakeholders that the police has completed their investigations on the matter and the forensic audit report has been shared with the shareholders on the 3rd July 2020 for their perusal and consideration.

Ordinarily, Babereki Investments will not share such a sensitive forensic audit report with the public.  However, owing to the various media speculation that the Board is concealing the forensic audit and refusing to release it to cover its tracks, we have found it necessary to make this update for transparency and accountability purposes.  The board was constrained to release the forensic audit before the police could complete their investigations.

The Board and Management will engage all its stakeholders regarding the forensic audit and its implications. As a company, we cherish transparency, good corporate governance and accountability. As a board we will endeavour to close all gaps to ensure that there is no reoccurrence of the identified impropriety.

We trust that this update will put to rest the speculation on the forensic investigations audit.
