Deadpool overpowers villains

Deadpool is a 2016 American superhero film and it is the eighth installment in the X-men series. Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humour, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life. The film is also star-studded and enticing, even on paper as it boasts of action super stars like Ryan Reynolds from big films like Safe House, Selfless (2012,2014) and Game of Thrones, The Transporter: Refueled (2015). The stars give it that magnetic power to which enables it to drag enthusiasts to cinema to catch a feel of their mutant abilities. Ironically the same cannot be said about the director Tim Miller who was making his directorial debut. Funny enough even film credits when Deadpool starts is quoted as “directed by an overpaid tool”. That should not be taken lightly as is a warning shot to Deadpool’s rude sense of humour and R-rating.

Action

Masa Cinema was set abuzz with laughter as Ryan Reynolds was constantly being a menace. Ryan Reynolds fits the role of Deadpool like a glove. The humour in this is just so flaming hot unlike other superhero movies that often have mild comedy. The story is also so simple and relatable. I bet most of you have been in situations like Deadpool’s where you get tricked. The film has other themes like love, power and justice. As this film is action oriented it is visually and thematically creative and unique. There is a lot of violence & destruction from road rage, martial arts and bullets flying around. There is this scene where our unapologetic hero, Deadpool shoots three people with one bullet which also compliments the stunts.  Deadpool is not afraid to shoot and stab his way through enemies. Marvel Comics never disappoint when it come to exaggeration of characters. Last year (2015) they gave us Ant-man as a guy who shrinks, now the foul-mouthed Deadpool is a mutant who has instant healing powers. In one scene Deadpool cuts off his hand from handcuffs only for it to grow right back. The villain as well as Ajax (Ed Skrein) is mutant enough, and does not feel pain hence his irrational actions. As such these superhuman abilities compliment sci-fi nature of the cinematography. My highlight characters were Colossus the steel man who is reminiscent of Arnold Shwartzenegger’s Terminator days as well as a fire-charging chick Negasonic. Camera movement is top notch, director Tim Miller managed to win hearts. He juggles around with flashbacks, narration and camera work to create the suspense element. The punch-line from Deadpool’s sarcasm and jokes is what gives the film more vigour. This was a kick-starter to Marvel’s 2016 scheduled releases, which entails Superman vs Batman as well as Captain America: Civil.

Reception

According to box office statistics, this film is the third film from Fox Century studios to top box office in 2016 after The Revenant in January followed by Kung Fu Panda 3 this February. Deadpool comes from a $58 million production budget. It sold like roses as it premiered with $132 million. At the time of going to press by Wednesday it was sitting on a worldwide sum of  $285. The figures could have been much more had the film not been shunned from China theatres for too much sexual content.
