The deceased Abobakwe Kgwarae, who died on Friday at Bokamoso private hospital after a week in the Intensive Care Unit, is said to be the key witness in the Montshiwa case. “The suspect will appear in court tomorrow (today) and is likely to face a charge of murder. He has not been formally charged yet as investigations are still ongoing,” said Tshebo.  He could not shed light on whether the suspect was in any way involved in the Montshiwa murder case.

“I do not have any official information on that. All I know is we are investigating this incident that was reported to us. We spent sleepless nights to arrest the culprits, and we did,” said Tshebo. Kgwarae spent a week at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Bokamoso Private Hospital after sustaining head injuries. Sources had previously leaked a police correspondence, which detailed how Kgwarae ended up at the hospital. According to the police correspondence on February 6, 2016 at around 2000hrs, a man aged 42 years was reported to have been attacked by unknown culprits in the bush near Kgale Junction. “The girlfriend took the police to the scene, where she disappeared while the police were busy attending the scene. The victim who sustained head injuries was taken to Block 9 clinic where he was left for medical attention with the agreement that the nurse would call the police to come and collect him after treatment,” read the correspondence.

The report further claimed that even though the police had agreed with the nurses at the Block 9 clinic that they should be informed once he had received treatment, the alleged witness discharged himself and booked at the Bokamoso Private Hospital. Kgwarae family members confirmed to Mmegi that he had passed on.
