Thapong hosts select COVID-19 exhibition

With regulations allowing a 75 people limit in an activity or facility Thapong director, Reginald Bakwena told Arts & Culture that he sees the arts and entertainment opening as an opportunity for creatives to show what they have been working on during lockdown.
He said the upcoming COVID-19 exhibition would give artists a chance to explore and come up with messages that will address issues about the pandemic. “The work should portray the economic, social and health issues brought about by the pandemic. Artists are encouraged to interpret, analyse and project the COVID-19 situation with their creative understanding,” he revealed. Bakwena also said the deadline for submission of works is, July 30, 2020.
He also said as Thapong they depend on exhibition gatherings and tourists who buy their artwork but restrictions made that hard to attain. “Our work requires a lot of face to face interaction so we believe in conversation through workshops. Members’ exhibition gives artists a chance to improve their work and that has been missing so we thank the government for opening doors for us,” he said. Going forward, he said they are thinking of doing online exhibitions.
“It’s a very good opportunity that the government is giving to us and it shows that they have been listening to us,” he highlighted.
