The move would leave incumbent, Maclean Letshwiti at a clear advantage to retain the presidency.

However, Sebego and Malesu are expected to challenge the BFA Electoral Committee’s decision.

According to authoritative sources, the two failed to make it due to pending cases.

Malesu’s move to contest reportedly faced a hurdle when the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) indicated he had a pending case. It is unclear as to what charges Malesu faces.

According to a letter the BNSC wrote to the Electoral Committee, Malesu’s case was a subject of investigation from crime busting agency, the Directorate on Economic Crime and Corruption (DCEC).

However, Malesu denied any knowledge of an outstanding issue.

“I have never been called or written to about any issue, unless if it is a recent issue. May be they will serve me in due course,” Malesu said.

Asked if he would appeal if disqualified, Malesu said he could not ‘pre-empt any disqualification.’

“I don’t pre-empt any disqualification especially by BNSC. I don’t have (any) wrong against the BNSC,” Malesu said.

Sebego’s issues, according to sources, relate to two civil cases registered in Thamaga and Broadhurst.

The former BFA president however, denied any knowledge of wrong doing. Sources within his camp, said they would not be surprised if their man was vetted out.

Electoral Committee board chairperson, Moemedi Letina, said the outcome of the vetting process would only be out on Wednesday, as the football family now eagerly awaits the report.

The BFA is due to go to the polls on August 8 to elect a new committee.
