Bold decision: Letina's committee vetted out Sebego and Malesu

His comments come after the axing of presidential candidates, Tebogo Sebego and Ookeditse Malesu, for yet unnamed reasons.

It is believed the two have pending cases, which affected their candidature.

Other than the two, the rest of the nominees sailed through.

However, following the conclusion of the vetting process, some people have raised concerns that certain successful candidates have pending cases, and therefore, should not have made the final list.

Letina urged those with objections about the list, to raise them with the Appeals Committee.

Both Sebego and Malesu have challenged the initial decision to chop them out of the race.

The BFA holds its elections to choose a new committee on August 8, 2020.

The decision to remove Sebego and Malesu from the contest has cleared the path for incumbent, Maclean Letshwiti to retain the presidency.

Letina explained that the list was not final, subject to appeals.

“Some of the challenges we faced are that people did not come forward to share information (about the candidates). We did the job to the best of our ability. We did our vetting without any interference.”

“What people should know is that we did not know everything about everyone. The names have been published and if there is something about someone, they can raise it with the Appeals Committee,” Letina said.

He said they were guided by the integrity test in the vetting process.

In a statement, Sebego’s camp, Friends of Football, said they were concerned about the decision to axe their candidate.

“We are gravely concerned about the decision taken on Mr Tebogo Sebego’s candidacy, and can confirm that we will formally appeal the resolution within the stipulated four days. We are adamant that the decision not to endorse Sebego as presidential candidate is ill-informed and erroneous. We trust that the appeal process will correct the decision and confirm his candidacy,” reads the statement.
