The game started 30 minutes late due to a good number of fans stranded outside as the tickets ran out.

The host announced their intentions early in the game with Tendai Nyumasi receiving a long ball from the middle and lobbed over the advancing Wagarre Dikago in the third minute.

The attacker collided with the keeper in the process and the match was stopped for five minutes as both players received treatment. In the 13th minute, Onalethata Tshekiso powered through two defenders but his shot was well saved by Dikago.

Following a quick counter attack, Lemponye Tshireletso laid a square ball to Nyumasi, who slotted at the far post to double his team’s lead with his second of the night. Gunners’ winger Mandla Mgadla forced a fingertip save from Raphael Nthwane with a free kick in front of the box. Chiefs took their two-goal lead into the break.

Neither team got a grip from the start of the second half as the match was constantly stopped due to injuries. However, Chiefs extended their lead in the 69th minute when Thatayaone Ramatlapeng’s corner kick was met by Tshireletso’s diving header.

The attacker took his tally to 13 goals this season. Four minutes later, Tshireletso found Tshekiso with a lobbed pass but the latter failed to beat Dikago on an one-on- one situation. Gunners pressed hard for a goal, but their efforts did not bear fruit.

“I have been complaining about the defence, now my defence is okay. We now have stability in terms of our play. The league is still open. Anyone in the top four stands a chance, so we will keep on doing what we are doing now,” said Chiefs’ coach, Mike Sithole. His opposite number, Gunners’ coach Daniel Nare rued defensive errors, which cost them the game. “We made school boy errors in defence. For the good name of football, I must give it to Chiefs, they were better than us in every department,” he said.
