Majombolo face a crippling financial crisis as traditional sponsors, BCL mine face challenges due to weak commodity prices.

The miner has not been able to assist the club recently.

Since the beginning of last week, players have refused to train demanding they be paid their dues. The team didn’t train just before their encounter against BR Highlanders last weekend and the boycott continued this week although some players returned to training on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, last week after a training session the players met with the management and an agreement was reached that they would be paid by Tuesday this week but on Thursday they had not received their payments.

Players were last paid on December 24, 2015 before they went for the festive season break. The team owes them dues for January.

According to one of the players who chose not to be named for fear of victimisation, the players reached an agreement over their salaries with the management last week Wednesday.

“It all started last week, we did not train on Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesday after training, we met with the management and they promised to pay our salaries this week on Monday or the latest Tuesday. They told us they were expecting some funds from somewhere but up to now we haven’t received anything,” he said.

Nico United’s spokesperson, Mogomotsi ‘Ace’ Orapeleng said the team has financial setbacks but said they have met with the players and they are resolving the matter.

“It is the issue of money, we have some challenges, but we are trying by all means to assist. We are in discussion with our players to see how we can resolve this matter.

Of course their salaries are due now but it’s for one month,” he said.

“We had an agreement with them and when we went for the Christmas break we paid them twice for the month ending December 7 and January 7, now we owe them for the month ending February 7, which we are working around the clock to address.

It is the arrangement we made with our players that our month ends on the 7th of every month,” he added.
