“Mathematically, I’m still in the race. I just have to win all my remaining games and hope that my opponents lose,” he said.

The country’s number one ranked player said it was more difficult to compete in the league than in tournaments due to the amount of time given to prepare for the game.

“During the league matches, we do not have enough time to do warm ups, you are just in the table stiff. In a tournament, you may find out that you play several matches before the main event, and that on its own helps you to get the feel of the table,” he said.

He further said he has minimum training because there are no training facilities in his locality. “As a player, you have to be ready for everything that might happen the next day.

It is something that I am aware might happen and I will have to be ready for it,” Mabote said when he was quizzed if his slump might cost him his place in the national team. He would continue his quest for glory tomorrow when he faces Joseph Kgatlampane at 10am before taking on Modisaotsile in his second and last fixture of the day.

In other fixture log leader, Matlhatsi, plays BTTA’s third ranked Kennete Santudu.

Santudu would want to keep his title hopes alive when he plays Kgatlampane in the other fixture. In the women’s section, Boitshwarelo Butale faces Salome Matlhatsi before a tricky encounter against Namibo Mbulawa, while third placed Matshidiso Osi look to topple Tshepiso Rebatenne off the second spot.
