The player was reportedly unwell and died in his homeland.

Sibanda played for FC Satmos, Orapa United, Security Systems and BDF XI, and earned respect for his play in the middle of the park. He won the Mascom Top 8 with Orapa United in 2016.

He returned to his homeland last year. Sibanda’s stay in Botswana was cut short by an injury, which forced him to return home.

The 33-year-old also represented his native Zimbabwe at the Under-20 level.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) general manager, Monnakgotla Mojaki was behind Mgcini’s move from Zimbabwe.

“I am saddened. I recruited Mgcini when I was chairperson of Satmos through a man called Mandla Mpofu, who was a coach in Zimbabwe. He recommended Mgcini who was very young at the time. He came to Satmos as a young boy, and got married while playing for our team.  We were a family. He came as a boy and left as a man,” Mojaki said.

He said Sibanda played his best football at Satmos. There were no details regarding his funeral at press time.
