Seakanyeng parted ways with Maltese club, Lija Athletic after a year with the team while Kgaswane ended his 18-month stay at Azerbaijan’s Zira FC.
The duo fell prey to the impact of COVID-19 as clubs cut their losses. Teams in both nations, Malta and Azerbaijan have parted ways with large number of foreign players due to the financial impact of the virus.
Kgaswane arrived at Zira FC in January 2019 after leaving South African side, Baroka FC. He joined Lija Athletic after short stint with Chippa United.
League champions, Jwaneng Galaxy are said to have agreed a three-year contract with Seakanyeng. Despite no word from the Jwaneng based side, Seakanyeng’s capture could signal a statement of intent, as the team would be competing in the CAF Champions League next season. Orapa United are also said to be keeping a watchful eye, ready to pounce. With Malta’s airlines remaining grounded, Seakanyeng could stay in Malta after some clubs reportedly showed interest earlier this year, but Lija Athletic refused to sell. Kgaswane is linked with a move back to Gaborone United. The winger has to sort out issues with his travelling documents and the Reds could use the chance to keep him home for longer.
However, they face competition from their cross-town rivals, Township Rollers, who have been admirers of the former Baroka man for some time. A move to either South Africa or lower European leagues is likely. He remains stuck in Azerbaijan at the moment.
The 26-year-old arrived at Zira FC on an initial six-month contract and made eight starts in 11 appearances in his first season when his club narrowly missed UEFA Europa League qualification. That prompted the Baku-based side to table a two-year contract that was to end in June 2021.
The left footer has played 23 times for Zira and scored five goals in the one and half years stay at the club. Seakanyeng’s move to the island nation followed just six months after Kgaswane settled on the European shores.
Unlike his Zebras teammate, Seakanyeng spent time on the sidelines due to work permit issues. He shot straight into the line up, bagging a couple of assists, including a hat trick of assists in February as his team moved top of the table.
His exploits made him a fan favourite at the Italian islands. The two are now free agents and could be heading to the local league.
