The organisers of the pageant hosted a high tea for the selected 12 contestants for this year’s pageant.  The high tea brought a panel of motivational speakers such as former Miss Botswana Juby Peacock, former beauty queen Lebopo Bulayani, local designer Kaone Moremong of House of Kay, to mention a few.

According to the event organiser, Zenzele Hirschfield of Zen Promotions, this year they are going all out.

She said that next year, they want to take the pageant to greater heights by using a bigger venue and making it better.  Hirschfield also mentioned that the reason for the high tea was to unveil the contestants, sponsors, and inspire and educate the contestants as well.

Miss Millennium has grown over the years and has branded itself as an event of note. It has been held in the month of love, February without fail since 2005.  Past winners have successfully and significantly contributed towards social development of some communities through their charity works.

The reigning queen, Sandra Ramanteba told the contestants that they are all winners as it takes courage to register and compete for the crown.

Bulayani, who also runs Faciality Beauty Spa said that she would give the winner a full body massage.

Moremong who talked to the women about dressing to impress also pledged to give the winner a dress and a photo shoot.

Loads of prizes will be given to the winners of the pageant.  According to Peacock, life is like a race and when you are racing some will overtake you on the fast lane.

She told the contestants that as women of substance,  they need to run their race with wisdom. “When I became Miss Botswana I knew that I wanted to serve my country not to merely be famous,” said Peacock.

She further said that this is what has given her staying power because she is still serving her nation to date without let up.

Peacock has been involved in the arts, working with disabled people at Thuso Rehabilitation Centre, teaching vulnerable children at Bana ba Letsatsi poetic devices, and teaching children life skills at the Baylor Teen Club in Mahalapye and Maun.

Peacock also shared a few strategies for winning the pageant such as having faith, staying focused, reading widely, exercising so as to tone the body, prayer, confidence and positive thinking.

Bulayani gave the contestants a few tips about how to take care of their face and skin.  As a beauty therapist and former beauty queen, Bulayani gave the contestants make-up tips and how to look good.

“We have to take care of our bodies, especially by drinking water, eating healthy foods and exercising,” said Bulayani.
