Rancho wins BNF ticket for Sekoma

Rancho polled 258 votes in the BNF primary, beating Ditiro Melaetsa who got 188 and Segakolodi Sasheng who was third with 102.

A youthful member of the party, Rancho is also the Sekoma Village Ward Committee chairman.

“This was one of those primaries in which BNF members came in large numbers to vote,” said BNF secretary general, Tapiso Kgosikoma.

“Although some did not come to vote, we are happy with the turnout because just over 1,000 voted in this ward during the general elections.” He said some potential BNF voters had expired cards or could not produce their Omang, thus limiting the overall numbers over the weekend.

“Our voters roll has 1,100 voters but some of the members had relocated to other areas,” Kgosikoma said.

He revealed that it was the first time the BNF had held primaries in Sekoma as previously, members had chosen a candidate by consensus.  The secretary general said teams had left for Sekoma on Tuesday to start campaigns in the area. Rancho will be launched after the official Independent Electoral Commission nominations, which are scheduled for February 12.

Rancho and Lebotso will clash thereafter in the ward which fell vacant late last year after the death of the incumbent Umbrella for Democratic Change councillor, Makalare Ngomme.
