Pricey rotten chicken in the safe

The state alleges that Ruth Molobe and Tadwa Tshoganetso between January 31 and February 1, 2016 stole P92,473, 22 from the Furnmart safe and put a live chicken inside.

Molobe and Tshoganetso hold the positions of  credit controller and cashier respectively at Furnmart Nzano branch.

Inspector Lekang Tshepho told principal magistrate Dumisani Basupi that investigations in the matter are complete, adding that the state was not opposed to the accused being granted bail. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and told the court that they would engage attorneys to represent them in the matter.

Magistrate Basupi said looking at the charge sheet, it is clear that the amount allegedly stolen is excessive, but prosecution is lax about the bail application.

“I am surprised to learn from the prosecution that they do not object to the accused being granted conditional bail. I have observed that there is a continuing practice by some prosecutors, who do not take their duties seriously to apply for accused persons to be given bail without any conditions attached. I will make a determination in this matter without taking into consideration what the prosecution said,” Basupi stressed.

The accused were given conditional bail, stipulating that each pay P2,000, provide two sureties who shall each pay P1,000, report at Kutlwano police station every Monday and attend court as and when required to do so.

They are due in court on February 19. for the appointment of the minister but we have failed to agree on the timeline for other structures,” he said.

Meanwhile, the members who belong to the praise and worship team, Mokhukhu, and led by Tshiamo Tladi, are challenging the leaders for violating the church’s constitution and victimising members.

In their filing notice of September 23, 2015, the Tlokweng group challenges the mother body for failure to appoint a minister for Botswana since the constitution was passed in 2009, why annual general meetings never take place, and unconstitutional appointment of executive members.

The absence of a minister in Botswana causes the church to be in a state of crisis and uncertainty as no one was accountable to lead. As a result, the applicants said, the church was run from outside Botswana.

The case is set for argument on April 8, 2016.
