Love musical sets tone for Valentines Day

The director Oageng ‘Ras Logic’ Lemogang told Showbiz that they chose to come up with the play in February to coincide with Valentine’s Day and black history month.  Ras Logic said they have been working on the play since November last year.

“The play is composed of two acts, The first act will take an hour, and then we will take a 20-minute break. Afterwards we will complete the second act and it will also take an hour,” he said.

Ras Logic said the play has only two settings being in the city and Matimpole, which is a settlement. “We are ready.  From actors, attire and props, everything is set for Saturday,” he said.

He said Little Theatre accommodates only 120 people and they chose the venue because they wanted to show people what Matimpole Arts is capable of.

He said they tried to liaise with the media as well as push the show through social media marketing.  Ras Logic said most of the cast is old Matimpole members.

“A few are the new recruits and they have already shown their intention to stay,” he said.

Looking back, he said Matimpole was formed as a result of Limko Theatre’s mark in the performing arts.

“People became interested and wanted to join, but they couldn’t because it was a tertiary institution drama,” he said.  Ras Logic said it was then formed in 2014 to accommodate everyone.

He said they have already performed five musicals thus far.  He added: “Mostly we use musical instruments to complement the action, dance and the choreography on stage”.

Ras Logic said their main aim as Matimpole Arts is to create fulltime careers for the actors.  “We arrange workshops to cover relevant elements of theatre like acting, script writing, directing, singing and dancing,” he said.

He said they want their members to develop and write plays for Matimpole Arts and direct other plays outside. Briefly explaining the play, he said it tells the story of a girl who moved to the city to find love.

The show starts at 6pm and ends at 9pm. A single ticket is P60 while the double is P100.
