Premier League offices broken into

“The motive for the break-in is unknown. The three guards who patrol the area said they did not see anything. It is possible that the perpetrators were looking for transfer information as they broke into the registration office,” Mamelodi said.

Valuable items including television sets and computers, usually targets for burglars, were left untouched.

“It is possible that they were looking for documentation. The police were here and took a statement. The three guards were taken away for questioning,” Mamelodi said yesterday. The burglars destroyed the money safe and left excessive damage, according to Mamelodi.

“The damage is excessive yet they did not take anything.”

Mamelodi’s suspicions over transfer documents follows dispute over player transfer with a number of cases referred for arbitration. Meanwhile, Mamelodi has said he is still awaiting a report regarding incidents which marred the GU and Chiefs game on Friday.

Supporters pelted each other with missiles after referee Tshepo Gobagoba awarded Chiefs an 82nd minute penalty resulting in one fan sustaining a head injury. The game got a little too rough as both benches got frustrated with proceedings. After the final whistle, GU players confronted the referee.

Chiefs condemned the incidents. “It is by no means acceptable, in any circumstance, to attack a supporter of an opposing team. It was not the hospitality we were expecting as the away team. We demand resolutionof this issue in order that the safety and protection of our fans in future games is ensured,” the club’s statement reads.

Gobagoba has been in the middle of controversy lately. He was involved in a controversial red card incident where Township Rollers’ Maano Ditshupo  was sent off but the dismissal was later reversed  by the BPL.

Gobagoba was the fourth official and after centre man Gaontebale Malete had given Ditshupo a yellow card which was his (Ditshupo) first Gobagoba called Malete to the line informing him that it was a second and therefore a dismissal. Gunners’ coach Daniel Nare last week labelled the referee ‘unfit’ to officiate in the elite league following his side’s 1-1 draw against Orapa United, while Green Lovers’ mentor Onthusitse ‘Chips’ Kootswele also lashed at the referee after his side’s 1-0 win over Mogoditshane Fighters in the play-offs last year.

The 34 year old is part of a team of local referees that will take charge of a CAF Confederation Cup match between Malawi’s Club de Moheli and Burundian side Athletico Olympic over the weekend. He would be assisted by Moemedi Monakwane and Mogomotsi Morakile. Joshua Bondo is the fourth official.
