Kebue’s manager, Godfrey Ranthoka told Mmegi Sport that together with the player and his parents it was decided that the former Under-20 captain move to Chiefs.

He said GU had shown interest in the player and the club tabled a lucrative offer. He said the player was not after money, but to grow his career. Ranthoka said they wanted the player to be at Chiefs due to former Under-23 coach, Pio Paul presence.

“He used to play under Paul and this is a continuation of where they left off during national team assignments. GU did not have a technical team when the player decided to move to Chiefs. We did not want him to suffer. You should also realise that Chiefs in contesting for Mascom Top 8 and beMOBILE Premiership title. That is a motivation for the player,” argued Ranthoka.

He said Chiefs has a history of finding a market for players outside the country and that might work for Kebue. Ranthoka said there are some people who are suggesting that GU was sabotaged in the process. He said such allegations are not good because they put pressure on the youngster.

Chiefs’ public relations officer, Clifford Mogomotsi said Fobby Radipotsane introduced the player to them three years ago. He said Kebue was playing for Pilikwe United by then. He said they had interest in signing him, but the challenge was that he was still a student. Mogomotsi said they wanted to find school for him in Gaborone, but his parents were not keen on that.

“We then decided to have him sign with Motlakase on loan from Pilikwe,” Mogomotsi said. “We realised that most people just saw the player recently. It came to our attention that other clubs had interest in him because he is a quality player. He is our player.”
