Foremost in their  urgent prayers, BOPEU seeks the Industrial Court to declare that BOFEPUSU is not entitled to  be admitted  into the membership of  the Bargaining Council.

The urgent application seeks Court to declare that only trade unions which are recognised by the government of Botswana are entitled to be admitted into the Bargaining Council.

The urgent matter also prays that  for purposes of  verification, whether a trade union meets the required threshold the PSBC shall take into account the individual membership figures of  the trade unions.

Also in the BOPEU urgent application is  their intention to halt  the PSBC from proceeding with the  salary and conditions of service negotiations pending  the conclusion of this matter.

The urgent application also seeks to cancel resolutions taken at the bargaining council meeting of last week Thursday, specifically resolutions No.2 that  among others set out rules of negotiations guiding the salary talks, deadline  for submission of counter-proposal (by government), time table for negotiations for the  year 2016/17.

The BOPEU urgent application also seeks to throw out Resolution 3 taken at the last week bargaining council meeting.

That resolution pertains to “Rules and procedures governing the negotiations on salary adjustment for 2016/17.

BOPEU’s urgent application also seeks to declare null and void the Report on the Outcome of  the Verification of Membership Figures of Trade Union Party, made by  the PSBC.

This urgent application comes just a day after the PSBC met to prepare for the start of salary talks without considering the application for membership into the PSBC by BOPEU and partners, namely BOGOWU, BONU, and TAWU.
