Selebi-Phikwe police launch manhunt after woman raped, robbed

The incident happened last Saturday morning, police have reported.
The law enforcement officers are on a hunt for the duo who also stabbed an 18-year-old in their robbery spree. The two incidents occurred at New Stands location around 4:55 am.
Selebi-Phikwe station commander, Superintendent Meshack Pulenyane said the suspects broke into the first house where they found the quadragenarian sleeping.
Pulenyane explained that they woke her up and demanded she give them the money. The station commander added the victim did not have money in the house, and the man brandishing a knife allegedly took her phone worth about P2,900.
According to the station chief, while the other man went outside, another stayed inside and allegedly sexually assaulted the woman in her bedroom. Pulenyane added the man was using a condom that he had brought with him. The duo invaded another house in a similar location down the street.
It is there that they found a young girl and her aunt and robbed them of a laptop and two phones. In the process, they stabbed the 18-year-old teenage girl twice for refusing to let go of her phone.
“They stabbed her twice on the thighs. It appears the suspects had studied the houses they invaded and figured the women were staying alone,” the police superintendent said.
Pulenyane noted they were on the tails of the duo and were hopefull they would make an arrest soon. He said the two assailants used a similar modus operandi to gain access into the houses. That, and the description the police got from the victims linked the two suspects to the crimes.
“They broke the nearest window to the door and removed keys that they used to unlock. My advice is always to lock and remove keys from the doors before going to bed,” Pulenyane said.
He further advised residents to invest in burglar bars for security. “We report a large number of break-ins, people must ensure they fit burglar bars to avoid being an easy target for these criminals. They study the environment and pounce on easy picks.”
