Galaxy postpones crucial players meeting

Management and players were supposed to meet this past Tuesday to discuss a way forward regarding players' wages and contracts.
Mmegi Sport learnt that the meeting, which was to be held at the Galaxy Stadium on Tuesday evening, was postponed, as a sizeable number of players were not present in Jwaneng. Most of the players are said to have left the mining town after football activities were suspended in March.
'Most of our players are now in town and yes we did not hold meeting,' Galaxy's public relations officer, Tankiso Morake briefly confirmed, but was cagey with the details of the doomed meeting, except to acknowledge that the future of the players would have been discussed on Tuesday. The league champions were expected to unveil their payment plans to the players on the day. Galaxy had ben paying their players half salaries since the Botswana Football Association (BFA) halted all activities.
Most clubs are mulling over freezing players' contracts until a decision on the league's return is made. Local clubs face prolonged uncertainty, as a decision on the resumption of football activities remains pending.
Teams have not taken to the field for five months now, as clubs face dilemma on players' salaries and contracts while the preseason preparations and recruitment have also been affected.
Meanwhile, Orapa United have postponed an elective general assembly, which was scheduled for this Saturday. The club, through a statement said that the meeting was called off to comply with the COVID-19 protocols. The meeting was supposed to usher in a new committee as long serving vice chairperson, Kennekae Nkape was expected to bid farewell after a decade service. The Ostriches have become the second elite club to fail to hold their annual meeting as BDF XI, last month cancelled their meeting for this year. Extension Gunners also, called off executive committee elections due to COVID-19 in July.
