Deputy Registrar and Master of the Francistown High court, Nelson Bopa, said stimulating the spirit of good performance will certainly turn NRH into a centre of excellence that delivers quality health services to the delight of their customers.

The event was held under the theme: “Service excellence, recognition and appreciation.’

He told hospital employees that they do not need to be reminded that their commitment to excellence in the provision of quality health service will not only help NRH but the Ministry of Health to achieve their strategic goals.

Additionally, that will contribute a great deal to moving Botswana ahead in its quest to meet international set standards in the provision of health services.

He said the provision of good health services is a very important factor that has a bearing in attracting foreign direct investment and promotes the tourism industry thereby contributing to employment creation.

“Your achievements are therefore no small feat. By staging the ceremony so publicly, your leadership is very aware of the magnitude of your achievements and performance and its potential impact in re-enforcing positive behaviours therefore I urge you to make it the hallmark of NRH,” he said. Bopa noted that even though the event is meant to recognise dedicated, honest, self-driven public servants in the hospital, it will also boost their moral, spare the performance and create the spirit of competition which will encourage their productivity.

He applauded the 40 men and women at the hospital who have shown selflessness and dedication in health care provision.

He said that in a changing health care environment, the leaders of the health care facilities face challenges to meet the public expectation and for them to overcome the challenges they will have to initiate good relations in their workers.

Bopa said through perseverance and dedication they will motivate others and contribute immensely towards the improvement of the provision of the health care services not only in NRH but also throughout Botswana.

The employees were awarded in the following categories: Performer of the Year by Cadre award, Long Service and Good Conduct award, Corporate Award, Innovation award and Hospital Superintendent Special award.

“We cannot all be winners at the same time. These men and women are pioneers, follow their example and up your game and do what it takes to put the NRH, the Ministry of Health and Botswana general in the league of high performers,” he said.

He added that upholding service delivery and good customer care will certainly transform their institution into a centre of excellence in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

NRH Superintendent Dr Tshipayagae Malaki, said the hospital had a serious problem eight years ago when it attracted a bad image.

“What does not kill you makes you strong so I used this as my motivation to rebuild the NRH,” he said.

Malaki indicated that the hospital aspires to be the model of excellence through the services and commitment they offer despite the challenges they face.

“We take pride in the good work we continue to do at the hospital,” said the elated Malaki. The medic said that they educate and motivate their workforce to be accountable individuals.
