Autlwetse resolves Serule conflict

The conflict involves allegations that Mabutho doubts the legitimacy of Kgosi Oletile Modise. Autlwetse addressed the residents last week Friday, where he reported that the rival camps have smoked the peace pipe.

“I had a meeting with both parties on Thursday and they have agreed to resolve their differences,” he said. He also said that traditional leaders and the councillor are the pillars of the village hence their differences affect the villagers.  “Kgosi and the councillor are the pillars of the village. If they fight amongst themselves then the village will never be at peace because there will be divisions,” he said.

Autlwetse told residents that the main purpose of the meeting was to resolve the conflict that has been negatively affecting the village. He said he has always been aware of the conflict and had asked relevant people to address the issue before taking the matter to him. He however, said that due to the apparent delay in resolving the divisive matter, he intervened as the conflict was now rearing its ugly head in the village.

Kgosi Modise said as a way of ensuring that the village does not experience another division between its members, villagers should also refrain from interfering in issues that do not concern them. He said that some villagers fuelled the conflict between traditional leaders and the councillor.  “There are some people here who are dividing our village by their negative advise. I urge you to refrain from such habits,” he said.

Mabutho pledged to start working with traditional leaders. He said he has decided to end the conflict because it was affecting developments in the village.  “This conflict has been going on for a long time and we have resolved it now. I will start engaging traditional leaders,” he said. He also said it is important for the villagers to join hands with him and traditional leaders to develop their village.

“There has been some delay in developments due to the conflict that has been going on. I therefore urge all of us to take part in developing our village,” he said.

A representative of a rival group called the Concerned Group, Reba one Messe, said he is impressed that the MP had intervened to resolve the conflict. He said they are also willing to advise the councillor when it is necessary and that they hold nothing against him.  “I thank you Autlwetse for your intervention. We were so worried about the conflict that had engulfed in our village but we are now happy it is resolved,” he said.
