Khama appoints Gaborone High Commissioner

According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the 69-year-old Gaborone brings a wealth of knowledge and experience into his position of High Commissioner. Prior to his appointment, he was a Member of Parliament for Tlokweng Constituency formerly known as South East North from 2004 to 2014.

He once served as Leader of Opposition when he was vice president of the Botswana National Front (BNF).

He decamped to the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in 2011. He also served as Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development from February 1, 2013 to October 2014.

Gaborone has also held many senior positions such as chief executive officer of Botswana Telecommunications Corporation, managing director of Longman Botswana, lecturer and assistant registrar at the University of Botswana.

He is also one of the founding members of Matlala Secondary School and Longman Botswana and author of three Setswana novels.

Gaborone holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Humanities from the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland and a Masters in Education from the University of Manchester.

The High Commissioner-Designate is expected to take up his appointment in Maputo in March 2016.

He will be replacing Thuso Ramodimoosi, who has been redeployed to the ministry headquarters.
