The accident happened at around 1400hrs. Police said the deceased were aged between 30 and 35 years.

Molefhe said the accident took place on Tuesday when a Toyota RunX collided head-on with an ambulance. According to police, the car was driving towards the main gate while the ambulance was moving towards an opposite direction.

“The driver of the ambulance is in a stable condition and is currently at the hospital receiving treatment,” he said.

Molefhe said from the preliminary investigations they suspect that the Toyota RunX driver might have been driving beyond the prescribed speed limit.

Fatal road accidents in Orapa are rare and the mining town is known for its strong road safety measures.

Although police were reluctant to reveal the names of the deceased, Debswana has named the two deceased employees.

The two are Olebogeng Ditshameko and Mogopodi Mogolodi. Mogolodi was an MRM assistant under the mineral resource management department while Ditshameko was a Maintenance Operative.
