The Jazz Festival organised by Kalahari Jazz beats started late in the afternoon. Despite the low turnout, the festival commenced as planned.

One of the main acts Mpho Sebina did her best to entertain the few people who were there.  Arriving on stage clad in white shorts and a vest, Mpho Sebina performed a song entitled How Can We Be Lovers.  From there she performed a cover of the late Brenda Fassie’s Too Late For Mama and she hummed towards the end of the song to create an amazing effect.

Mpho Sebina’s approach to the song proved that she could make own any song.

She constantly clapped her hands to show that she enjoys what she does. Mpho Sebina even sang a song called Sing For Joy to indicate that singing is her passion.

She then switched from English songs to her own version of Ntsha Nkgo Re Kgaritlhe, and paid tribute to Boom Shaka by performing their song.

Other performers on the day included a male band, which opened the set with amazing jazz sounds. A young man called Tshenolo joined them on stage to sing the cover of Nathi’s popular song Nomvula.

A talented poet from Molepolole called Keabonye came to the stage to recite her beautiful piece. She started by singing Stoki Stoki and also complemented the singing and poetry with ululations. “Setswana sare ganke di etelelwa ke manamagadi pele mme sekgoa se

are ladies first,” she recited.  The legendary DJ Boogie Sid had people on their feet with an amazing set.  Other performers included Genious Senyatso and Fresh Les.
