Task team to come up with sport model

At the time, the Ministry owed teachers P32 million for their participation in the 2019 activities.
As a way to remedy the problem, government through the Ministries of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC) and Basic Education have now set up a Joint Task Team (JTT) that would recommend a suitable way of running and managing school sport.
The JTT would carry out a comprehensive review of sport development and competition in schools.
MYSC permanent secretary, Kago Ramokate told Mmegi Sport that school sport has evolved and grown tremendously and the review comes at a good time.
“The terms and reference of the task team is to review all aspects of the running of school sport and recommend a sustainable and effective model,” Ramokate said.
When asked about the absence of representation for sport with disabilities in the task team, he said it was expected that the terms of reference would guide the task force. “In this way, it would cover age, gender, disability and safeguarding issues,” he added.
Ramokate said they have included teacher organisations in the task team in order to get the teachers input.
He explained that the task team would engage any stakeholder they deem fit, including unions, should they wish.
“The aim is to complete all consultations and put in place a model to be followed in the coming year,” he said.
For his part, Botswana Integrated Sport Association (BISA) president, Joshua Gaotlhobogwe said it was worthwhile to set up the task force. He said the team would bring stakeholders together in an attempt to address school sport as a subject. The task team will complete its work within three months.

The other members are MYSC principal programme officer-sport, Lincoln Goitsemang, principal education officer at MoBE headquarters Mogametsi Kowa, Botswana National Olympic Committee board member, Tebo Segaise and BISA President, Gaotlhobogwe
Others are Botswana Primary Schools Sport Association vice president-technical, Selebatso Keabetswe, Botswana National Sport Commission technical director, Bobby Gaseitsiwe, Ronald Dlamini (MoBE) and University of Botswana senior lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology, Dr Tshepang Tshube.
