Uproar as snooker extends registration date

The committee has been accused of extending the registration period in order to give clubs aligned to the BBC president, Terrence Tiroyakgosi, time to register.
According to a letter to the affiliates written by Tiroyakgosi, the executive committee met last week and decided to extend the registration until today (August 21).
“Some clubs sent their applications online, which the BBC committee could not access them on time hence this extension. We further invite those still interested to apply for affiliation by sending their applications physically to BBC office.
No request for further extension would be allowed as preparations for the annual general meeting (AGM) are on-going,” reads the letter in part. According to a source, the executive has not released the agenda for the AGM.
“We feel the AGM might be postponed at the eleventh hour. We do not even know the venue. Registration was long closed, three weeks ago,” said an affiliate speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal.
Tiroyakgosi and secretary general, Goitseone Kebualemang are the only original members who were elected into office in 2016, while the rest resigned.
Former vice president-administration, Keorapetse Setlhare is amongst the members who quit. When he resigned in 2017, Setlhare said the new BBC constitution was not a true reflection of what was agreed.
“The constitution gives the president power to expel and can override the decision of the board members and this was not agreed to by the members.
The president called a meeting with affiliates without the consent of the executive, which I believe was un-procedural,” Setlhare wrote in the letter.
Despite fears that the AGM might not be held, Kebualemang told Mmegi Sport the meeting would go ahead next week. He said affiliates registration was affected by the Greater Gaborone lockdown.
“At the moment we have affiliates from Gaborone, Modipane, Orapa, Letlhakane, Mochudi, Kanye and Ramotswa. So now, we want to give other clubs from different parts of the country a chance to affiliate,” he said. Meanwhile, Kebualemang said the entire committee is seeking re-election except the treasurer, Isaac Oratile.
“Oratile is yet to complete his accounting examinations in order to gain full professional accounting practicing rights. So we want them to explain to us why they have been keeping an unqualified accountant,” a source further said.
Tiroyakgosi is expected to face a challenge from Mooketsi Sedimo for the top post. Lebogang Ndlovu is challenging incumbent, Koziba Sebina for the vice president-administration post.
Disa Lebekwe is the only candidate to raise his hand for the vice president-technical post, but competition is expected as the elections draw closer.
Marang Morolong faces Kebualemang for the secretary general seat. Thus far, Joseph Mokwaleng is unchallenged for the treasurer’s post. The position for tournament secretary has Joseph Tsienyane up against Tumelo Keokgale.
The public relations officer position is a battle between Oageng Nguka against Mamie Baleseng.
