The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Botlogile Tshireletso told Ntlo ya Dikgosi on Friday that installation of the Herero ward headmen took long because of conflict in the community.

Tshireletso was responding to a question asked by Kgosi Oreagetse Machilidza of Boteti Region who wanted to know what caused the delay in installation of the headmen. Machilidza said the residents knew that the issue had been resolved in 2008 but the headmen had not been installed to date.

She said: “Some people vowed that Bogosi jwa Herero ward belonged to the Sakera’s while others were going with Ba-ga-Asa. Bangwato Tribal Authority has since resolved the issue in consultation with the community. The post will be filled before the end of February 2016.”

Machilidza had asked the minister to state the name of the person who would be installed as a headmen and whether she was aware that the community chose Sakera to be the headmen.

“I did not get the name from the officers because I was not aware that this house will need it. Again my office does not have information regarding the election of headmen that were done at Herero ward.

May be it was not brought to our office. The chief says they even wrote to our offices to have a meeting with them regarding the issue but there is no such communication,” she said. Machilidza said he hoped that the issue would be resolved this month and some of the issues raised by the community would be addressed.
