The shot in the arm for the much anticipated carnival parade slated for March, promises to be a hit if the talent displayed on Thursday night at the launch is anything to go by.

The carnival is expected to have a variety of events including dance and acting. Part of the funds from FNB will go towards getting all the artists ready for the big event.

Those who attended the launch had the exclusive glimpse of some of the artists who would be part of the carnival parade.

First on stage was a quartet of Kesetse, Thelma, Prince and Koketso serenading the audience with their sweet melodies, and then there was Faith and Chisala with their modern contemporary dance moves.

The performers left the audience in total amazement. Timiso Thomas and Tinashe Mangirosa also played their part in engaging the audience. The carnival was established in 2013 and officially launched in March 2015.

When officially launching the carnival and sponsorship Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, Kgopotso Ramoroka said the creative industry needs support as they form part of economic diversification, while at the same time engaging the youth in a more productive way.

He said as the ministry they are doing all they could to support the creative industry, as it evidenced by the President’s Day Competitions, but he pointed out that it is still not enough to grow the industry that seems to be lagging behind.

“Creative Industries can be a source of income for many youth who engage in it and it can pave way for many who graduate and cannot find employment because in other countries, creative industries are held in high regard and are taken seriously,” he said.

Giving his response, FNB Foundation Trustee, Odiseng Lesedinyane said the money would be used to train participants, provide costumes and other materials needed for the carnival.  Lesedinyane said as the bank they found it befitting to support the carnival saying that they have been supporting the creative industry for a very long time. He added that they would continue to support the industry for as long as it needs to grow and stand on its own.
